New Motor Vehicle Sales, Total vehicles - Short term

• Trend - The June 2008 trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales (88 460) decreased 0.4% when compared with May 2008. The trend estimate has continued to decrease since January 2008.
• Seasonally adjusted - The June 2008 estimate for total sales of new motor vehicles (88 917) increased by 1.0% compared with May 2008.

• Trend - When comparing June 2008 with May 2008, trend estimates decreased for other vehicles, 0.6%, sports utility vehicles, 0.5%, and passenger vehicles, 0.2%. When compared with the same period 12 months ago, passenger vehicles fell by 1.9% while sports utility vehicles and other vehicles rose by 7.7% and 7.4% respectively.
• Seasonally adjusted - When comparing June 2008 with May 2008, sports utility vehicles and passenger vehicles increased by 5.3% and 0.4% respectively, while other vehicles decreased by 1.2%.

• Trend - When comparing June 2008 with May 2008, seven of the states and territories showed decreases in the trend estimate of total sales of new motor vehicles. The largest decreases were in the Australian Capital Territory, 1.6%, the Northern Territory, 1.3% and Tasmania, 1.2%.
• Seasonally adjusted - When comparing June 2008 to May 2008, four of the states and territories showed decreases. The largest decrease was in the Northern Territory, 3.3%, followed by Western Australia, 1.2% and Tasmania, 0.6%. Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria showed increases of 3.0%, 1.0% and 0.9% respectively.
